The Widdler releases 43 tracks of wub and womp on 2 hour long album

The Widdler, an Austin-based artist known for his innovative approach to dubstep, has released his debut album “Zero G” on SubCarbon, the label run by dubstep duo Ganja White Night. This expansive project, featuring 43 tracks, represents years of musical experimentation and refinement.

“This album has been a long time coming,” The Widdler explains. “I’ve notoriously sat on a whole bunch of music for years and I thought it was time to let it go.” His goal was to showcase the diverse facets of dubstep, from introspective, brooding tracks to unapologetically fun party tunes.

The album takes listeners on a sonic journey through various moods and styles. The title track “Zero G” offers rasta-inspired, womp-heavy sounds, while “Echo Chamber” delves into dark, deep bass. “Holland” presents a rhythmic urban sound, and “Rooftops” creates ethereal, dreamy basscapes.

The Widdler’s creative process is as varied as his music. He describes producing some tracks “at 3am in a dark smokey room just soaking up the space and vastness of being alone at night.” These pieces evoke a sense of isolation and self-reflection. In contrast, his party tracks embrace “unapologetic, ignorant fun,” often featuring “silly samples in front of a wonky drop.”

While primarily rooted in dubstep, “Zero G” also explores beyond the genre’s typical 140 BPM. The Widdler notes, “A few of the songs aren’t dubstep at all but, in my mind, sit at the same table at lunchtime. Still being driven by full bass, they are more melodic.”

Recognized as an innovator in the dub sound, The Widdler’s daily mix sessions contribute to his flawless live performances. His music draws influence from various genres and lifestyles, resulting in a diverse sonic palette that ranges from chilled reggae dubs and atmospheric moods to intense bass and percussion.

With “Zero G,” The Widdler invites listeners to immerse themselves in his musical world. As he puts it, “This music is an extension of myself and my journey of figuring out my style leading up to this point.”
